Q. What is Lakanto® made of?
Lakanto® is made from Erythritol, a sugar alcohol made from fermented glucose from certified non-GMO corn and high-purity Luo Han Guo fruit extract. It contains no flavors, colors, preservatives or additives of any kind.

Q. Who makes Lakanto®?
Lakanto® is made in Japan by SARAYA Co. Ltd., an international health, sanitation and environmental technology company. A household name is Japan , SARAYA is known worldwide for its eco-friendly products and charitable work.

Q. Is Lakanto® safe?
Lakanto® has been sold in Japan for over ten years and has an excellent safety record. No adverse reactions have ever been reported and it is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Health Welfare and Labour as a Food for Special Dietary Uses. In the US , it has GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status.

Q. Is Lakanto® non-GMO?
Yes, Lakanto® is made with Erythritol from certified non-GMO corn. Although Luo Han Guo plantations have never been non-GMO-certified, the fruit is considered a Chinese national treasure and has never been genetically modified. It is grown according to ancient farming methods in a remote region of China .

Q: What makes Lakanto® different from other sweeteners?
Lakanto® is the only sweetener on the market that successfully combines Erythritol with Luo Han Guo – a prized Chinese medicinal fruit. This gives Lakanto a beautiful golden color and a unique, delicious taste. Lakanto is designed to match the sweetness profile of sugar as closely as possible and can be used like sugar in cooking or baking. It also lacks the burnt taste often associated with Luo Han Guo-based sweeteners. Lakanto has no aftertaste and can be used just like sugar.

Q. What is Erythritol?
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that exists naturally in many plants such as grapes and mushrooms and in fermented foods like cheese, wine and beer. It is produced through a natural fermentation process and it does not cause dental cavities or contribute to tooth decay since mouth bacteria can’t metabolize it. Erythritol has about 65-75% of the sweetness of sugar. Erythritol is the only sugar alcohol produced through fermentation.

Q. What is Luo Han Guo?
Luo Han Guo (Siraitia Grosvenorii) is a rare perennial plant cultivated mainly in the mountains of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China . Luo Han Guo is prized for its mogrosides, antioxidants that make the fruit 300 times sweeter than sugar.

Luo Han Guo has been used for thousands of years as a folk remedy for a variety of ailments and is known worldwide for its intense, non-caloric sweetness. In China it has been called “The Longevity Fruit” and is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat respiratory ailments, heat stroke, infections and more. This unique medicinal plant is the source of Lakanto’s delicious taste, aroma and golden color.

SARAYA has built special relations with Luo Han Guo growers and controls every aspect of its production for Lakanto® from seeding to processing.

Q. Can diabetics use Lakanto®?
Yes, Lakanto® was developed in Japan specifically for people suffering from diabetes and obesity. Lakanto’s zero calories and zero glycemic index mean it won't raise your blood sugar. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare approved Lakanto as “Food for Special Dietary Uses” and suitable for use by infants, expecting or nursing mothers and senior citizens.

Q. What about the 4 carbohydrates?
Lakanto® contains 4 zero net carbs per serving. These carbs are non-glycemic, meaning they are not converted into calories by your body.

Q. How sweet is Lakanto®?
Lakanto® has been specially formulated to match the sweetness profile of sugar as closely as possible.

Q. Where can I use Lakanto®?
Lakanto® looks, tastes and can be used a lot like raw, unprocessed sugar. Sprinkle it on food and use it in place of sugar in your favorite recipes. Lakanto® has no aftertaste and is highly stable. When used in large amounts, Lakanto® may crystallize if chilled. Lakanto does not caramelize.

Q. Will I have to change my recipes?
No. Since its sweetness curve is almost identical to sucrose, you can use Lakanto® as one-to-one sugar substitute.

Q. Can I use Lakanto® in cold drinks?
Yes. At 32°F (0°C) 20g Lakanto® dissolves in 100ml of water. It tends to crystallize when used in larger amounts in chilled drinks.
